KDH Scores Well Above Nation and State Averages on First 'Report Card'
King's Daughters Hospital scored well above the national and state averages on the first public reporting of patient experiences by the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA). HQA recently posted results on it's website Hospital Compare.
The goal of the HQA's Hospital Compare website is to give consumers a broad look at the quality of hospital care. Currently, more than 4200 acute-care hospitals are displaying data. By using a survey tool known as the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCHAPS) survey, patients are asked how often different aspects of care were provided - from nursing care to room cleanliness to how often a doctor carefully listened.
When compared side by side, King's Daughters outperformed the national and state averages for healthcare providers in 10 of 10 categories. One of the two questions carrying the most weight and indicating the highest level of satisfaction is Overall Hospital Rating. Patients evaluate the hospital on a 0-10 scale (worst-best hospital). When comparing KDH to the national database, KDH scored 14% above the national average and in the top 25% of hospitals across the nation. Scores averaged 15% higher than state average and 11% higher than local hospitals.
The other question, 'Likelihood of Recommending' asks patients to respond on a 4-point scale (definitely recommend to definitely will not recommend). KDH scored 17% above the national average and again ranked in the top 25% of hospitals in the nation. Scores averaged 17% higher than state and 10% higher than local.
