Health care Advance Directives
Upon inpatient or outpatient admission to the hospital, patients receive a booklet Pathways to Personal Choices. This booklet provides information on the Medical Power of Attorney and the document, plus information on a living will.
The Medical Power of Attorney allows patients to name a person to make healthcare decisions for them should they become incapacitated.
A living will allows patients to specify their wishes to receive or refuse medical treatment should they become unable to speak for themselves.
King’s Daughters Hospital Ethics Committee exists to provide education to caregivers and patients on ethical issues in health care. A patient, family member or visitor may request an ethics consultation. A nurse, nurse manager or social worker can provide more information.
